These disabilities can vary in degree and type, including epilepsy, cerebral palsy, cystic fibrosis, dwarfism, spina bifida, multiple sclerosis, missing limbs, paralysis, and other brain or spinal cord injuries. WebbVarious status positions accorded the physically handicapped are described with special reference to the change in obligations of the group toward the disabled member and the cultural definition of the nature of the handicap. The statuses described are pariah, economic liability, tolerant utilization, limited participation, and laissez-faire.
